When you’re faced with a plumbing emergency, it can be downright scary. The rush of fear that floods the human body when seeing water dripping from your ceiling or filling up your basement is something that you never forget. Today on the blog, we want to talk about why it’s important to get more than one quote when looking for a repair.
Reason #1- Save Yourself the $
The most obvious reason, you probably guessed it, is money. It may feel like a waste of time (and money) to have more than one plumber come out to look at the problem. This is frustrating because many big companies will charge you just for pulling in your driveway, but we don’t do that here at Advanced. If you are charged for a plumber to visit your home, they will typically apply the cost toward the quote that you’re looking to fill.
Getting multiple quotes (at least 2) will allow you to at least have a 2nd opinion on what it should cost to get your plumbing problem fixed. You can see the fair market value of the cost by seeing more than 1 quote, and you can also find out if you are going to get stuck paying any weird hidden fees.
Ask as many questions as you can regarding the plumbing problem, and don’t trust just anyone with an iPad and a fancy van to have the best solution, or price!
Reason #2- Know What You’re Paying for!
You may have heard the term “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.” Well, it’s a pretty strange phrase, but plumbers do have more than one solution. One plumber may have a more affordable solution and a less invasive approach than another, who may have a more conventional approach that may involve sawing into a wall or digging up the yard.
By looking at at least 2 different plumbing companies in WNY, you can get an idea of what exactly NEEDS to be done. It gives you a better idea of the project by having at least 2 perspectives. They may both say the same thing, with the same price, but that only means you probably don’t need a 3rd opinion.
The more complicated the problem/repair, the more likely that you will find variance between approach and price between plumbers.
Reason #3 – Peace of Mind
The reality is, this plumbing problem isn’t going away. Getting it fixed is an immediate necessity, but skipping out on getting a second opinion can be extremely frustrating if you find out in the future it didn’t need to be as expensive as you paid. On the other hand, not appropriately getting something repaired properly, going cheap, or going quick, can lead to the problem returning, or even returning in a worse state than before.
This can mean you pay double, triple, or more! By getting a second, or even a third opinion, you can find comfort and peace of mind knowing you made an educated decision. The cheapest bid isn’t always the best value, but larger plumbing companies often need to charge a bit more to continue their growth and expansion.
When paying someone to complete your plumbing repair, you want to feel good about your purchase, and that means making sure you check a few boxes:
- Do you feel confident that the price is fair?
- Do you feel comfortable giving your money to the company?
- Do you feel the plumber is experienced with these situations?
- Do you feel the plumber is being honest?
- Do you feel the plumber has a good reputation?
